An Enlightening MBA Alumni Night

On May 24 Friday, MBA alumni and students came together for an enlightening evening of socializing, networking and music appreciation while celebrating the end of the MBA Mentorship Program for 2018/19.

The event took place at the KEF Music Gallery, home to Britain’s premier audio brand. In the finely appointed surrounds of this exclusive enclave, MBA alumni and students enjoyed the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new dimension of sonic art and listened to music on a whole new level. Fellow HKUST MBA alumnus, Rudi Leung, presented an eclectic selection of music and discussed its vital role in wellness, creativity and keeping your brain young. As a musician, creative director, social media guru, author and audiophile, Rudi was ideally placed to guide us through this stimulating discussion. KEF Brand Ambassador Ben Hagens then took the audience back to the future on a musical journey with a difference. Ben curated a special soundtrack to 1991, the year HKUST officially opened.

The evening also presented a timely opportunity to recognize the success of the MBA Mentorship Program 2018/19, a pilot six-month initiative launched in November last year. The mentorship program aims to encourage a learning and sharing culture among alumni and students for a more involved HKUST MBA community. Through the alumni network, we hope to provide students with opportunities to benefit from former graduates’ real-life experiences, guidance and support, helping them to develop both personally and professionally. Alumnus Simon Kong and full-time student Laurent Ye reflected on the friendships built between them as mentor and mentee, and their takeaways from the mentoring experiences. Prof Kar Yan Tam, Dean of the HKUST Business School, and Prof Tai-Yuan Chen, Associate Dean and MBA Program Director, presented appreciation souvenirs to alumni mentors and honored these amazing contributors for their dedication to helping our students grow.
