HKUST MBA

MBA Sundial Summer 2018
FULL TIME PROGRAM
International Case Competition

Eleven teams with 43 full-time MBA students represented HKUST and participated in International Case Competitions held between February and May this year, with 6 of the teams achieving outstanding results, including winning the championship and second place.

The International Case Competitions have given students tremendous exposure, broadening their horizons through competitions with top business schools on the global stage. Each competition has a unique industry focus, including consulting, sustainability, healthcare, and technology.

Each team consisted of 4 or 5 students with different nationalities and professional backgrounds. This diversity made them well-rounded in tackling cases, giving them an edge in finding solutions using their comprehensive international perspective.

Prior to participating in the International Case Competitions, each full-time MBA student was required to meet certain criteria, such as placing well in our Internal Case Competition and achieving full attendance in an intensive course, Enhancing Professional Skills (EPS).

The Internal Case Competition is the first milestone for the students on the full “lifecycle” of a case competition. They delivered a group case analysis through pitching and were put on the spot during a Q&A session with a panel of faculty members, alumni, and external companies’ senior management.

EPS is a one-week full-day intensive course taught by four faculty members. It is a comprehensive training program of data analysis, issue identification, slide-building, and presentation skill enhancement. Throughout the course, students rotate between Finance, Marketing, Strategy, and Management sessions and utilize a solid framework to solve cases and receive constructive criticism to improve their skills.

We would like to express our tremendous gratitude to all of the faculty members who taught EPS and served as team advisors to facilitate the students’ professional development through the international case competitions.
