Green Career Horizons Widen with Pioneering HKUST-HKEX Sustainable Finance Course
HKUST MBA students to be offered first university elective in Asia in fast-emerging investment segment run in partnership with leading global markets operator
In a first for a university in Asia, HKUST has forged a partnership with
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) to jointly offer an MBA course on Sustainable Finance. The exciting move, in line with the HKUST MBA program’s “green” orientation and the financial sector’s growing need for talent in this area, will also assist Hong Kong in becoming a global sustainable finance hub and a driver of green projects regionally.
The elective course, scheduled to launch in May 2022, is being jointly designed by the HKUST Business School and HKEX for MBA students looking to gain new knowledge and skills to advance their job prospects and careers in this significant emerging field.
The MBA course,
“Sustainable Finance with Business Practices”, will introduce the framework surrounding sustainable finance and responsible investing as well as various approaches to environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) investing, products and strategies across asset classes, and governance practices.
Topics include the background and history of sustainable finance and key players; activities and strategies for sustainable investment; and market trends and regulations and standards in sustainable finance.
Prof. Tai-Yuan Chen, Associate Dean and HKUST MBA Program Director, hailed the course with HKEX as a way to help graduates “shape the future of sustainable finance and a better future for the community at large”. It will be taught by HKUST faculty and experts from HKEX, offering diverse perspectives on the key challenges and opportunities of green and sustainable finance.
