HKUST MBA SUNDIAL

Issue #13 (Jan 2022)
All Together Again! HKUST MBA’s biggest in-person networking event of 2021
Ahead of the holiday season in December 2021 and before social distancing measures were tightened again in Hong Kong to fight the fifth wave of COVID-19 over the new year, the HKUST MBA community was fortunate to host the program’s signature MBA Alumni Mixer, our first large-scale in-person networking event since 2019.

After closely monitoring the COVID situation throughout the year, the HKUST MBA team grasped the opportunity provided by the relatively stable outlook in early winter 2021 to organize the mixer. Despite a tight time frame, we were able to go ahead due to the fantastic and much appreciated support received from many different organizations and individuals.

We were also thrilled by the attendance. The event, held on two evenings at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, achieved a full house for both occasions, bringing together over 500 MBA alumni, students, VIP guests, and corporate partners in Hong Kong and around the world in person and virtually.

While MBA-ers love to network and meet new people, they also like to gain knowledge at the same time. Hence the mixer evenings provided the perfect setting to invite four outstanding speakers to share their insights in two Dialogue with Experts panel discussions on the hot topics of inflation and the recent COP26 global climate change conference in Scotland.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating these special moments together. We hope to hold an even larger event once social distancing measures are relaxed.

Dialogue with Experts

Panel 1
How to Invest Smartly to Fight Inflation

Mr. Davy Yuen

Dr. Rocky Tung

Given the latest fiscal policies around the world and impact of loose monetary policy, inflation is on many people’s minds nowadays. During the first mixer on 20 December 2021, HKUST MBA alumnus Mr. Davy Yuen, Wealth Management Director, AIA International, joined Dr. Rocky Tung, Director and Head of Policy Research, Financial Services Development Council, to discuss the issue from investment and policy perspectives.
Panel 2
Impact of COP26 on Businesses

Mr. Chong Chan Yau

Mr. Shrikanth Narasimha

As the first Green/Tech MBA in Asia, we were delighted to feature a discussion on the COP26 climate change conference and its effect on industry in our second mixer panel on 23 December 2021. The panel comprised Mr. Chong Chan Yau, Co-founder and CEO of CarbonCare Innolab, a non-governmental organization (NGO), and MBA alumnus Mr. Shrikanth Narasimha, Director, Sustainability & Supply Chain – Far East, Mainetti Group, which is the world’s largest garment hanger company. Mr. Chong, whose NGO is dedicated to raising environmental awareness and developing sustainable low-carbon lifestyles, had recently returned from attending the COP26 global conference.
