MESSAGE FROM PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Creating Long-term Value for HKUST MBA through New Digital Capacities

Digital education is the trend of higher education

The pandemic has changed the world. The sudden surge of work-from-home practice and the rise of online shopping are just some of the many changes pointing to a future of new social behaviors and preferences. The way businesses are conducted are changing and there is no exception for the education industry. All educational institutions, including top business schools, had experienced various level of delivering online education due to social distancing measures and international travel bans.

At the same time, new technologies enabled a high degree of human interactions in a virtual environment. Top business schools around the world have been speeding up their future online education capacity. Recently, a new alliance of business schools, “Future of Online Education (FOME)”, was formed. Business schools in this alliance have been working together to incubate ideas of expanding online business education capabilities.

HKUST cannot shy away from these changes. Foreseeing new demands for quality online business education in the post-pandemic future, HKUST is now launching MBA Program – Digital MBA for Global Leaders (DiMBA, Part-time mode) as an extension to the current line-up of part-time study modes. While it is noticeable that some top business schools have launched new online MBA programs, HKUST is the first Asian school among Financial Times’ Top 25 MBA programs to bring this new capacity. We are also building Asia’s first highly interactive virtual classroom to offer our online students a learning experience comparable to that of a physical classroom. Compared to ordinary online education, DiMBA is a hybrid digital part-time degree leveraging a mix of physical face-to-face elements and state-of-the-art technology to ensure the best interactive learning experience with same academic requirements as traditional part-time study mode, ensuring same teaching quality as traditional part-time MBA but only allows much enhanced flexibility for students.

New Possibilities for MBA Alumni Community

Enhancing Your Lifelong Learning - Increased range of online courses in the latest business subjects and flexibility of digital education will expand the scope and capacity of alumni audit. A highly interactive virtual classroom will improve the learning experience.
Extended Alumni and Professional Network - Being a highly selective digital program that targets EMBA type senior executives, the future HKUST MBA alumni community will be strengthened. As a fellow member with top educational institutions, including John Hopkins, Imperial College and Singapore Management University in the “Future of Management Education (FOME)” alliance, you will see more shared courses and enhanced networking.
A Global Presence for HKUST - Part-time mode in the past was limited to the local market. The new digital part-time mode will allow HKUST to tap into international markets and the HKUST brand will enjoy a better global presence in the future.
In this issue of Sundial, we will take you through more details of this new digital MBA study mode, as well as other recent events and new initiatives.
