FULL-TIME MBA PROGRAM
Hong Kong Television Network Limited (HKTV) Company Visit

HKTV is well known for its transformation from a telecom business to a Hong Kong-based e-commerce company that provides 24/7 online shopping for local consumers. It is also a great example of how innovating and embracing change can boost business growth.

With the generous support from our senior alumni, Ms. Alice Wong and Ms. Jelly Zhou, we were grateful for the opportunity to visit HKTV on September 6 and unveil its secrets to success. The visit began with a corporate presentation by our alumni, followed by an eye-opening tour to the warehouse, which offered participants an insider perspective into the company culture and daily operations of HKTV.

During the Q&A session in the morning, Alice Wong, Chief Financial Officer, shared her own story of career transformation with the audience. To pursue a professional breakthrough, she decided to do an MBA to get better equipped and develop a more competitive profile. The MBA experience also granted her the confidence and will to step out of her comfort zone to engage with different people in various events and deliver more persuasive presentations in conferences and investor meetings.

In the afternoon presentation, Jelly Zhou, Managing Director of Shopping & e-Commerce, stated that HKTV "is not only building an online shopping platform but also creating an online ecosystem". Indeed, HKTV is reshaping the shopping habits of people in Hong Kong by developing a one-stop digital hub that merges entertainment, online shopping and delivery services.

"We always take the most difficult path when doing business," said Jelly, "from telecom services to HKBN and now HKTV. It has been a long way but we have proved ourselves." The performance of HKTV in the past few years serves as a testament to her words.

Shivam Tiwari, a year one Full-Time MBA student said the visit to HKTV was an interesting opportunity to gain practical insights into the supply chain systems of HKTV. "The growth trajectory of HKTV over the past 5 years has been inspiring and it set an example for Hong Kong's digital ecosystem," he added.

The visit also took us behind the scene of HKTV's daily operations. Imported from Germany, the robotic logistics system used in the warehouse comprises conveying, automatic picking, storage and tote handling. Seeing the robotic machines going round and round in the warehouse leaves you in awe of how technology accelerates business growth and overhauls consumer experience.

"The tour showed us in detail how automation logistics is driving the efficiency and productivity of warehousing systems. It also strengthened our understanding of the overall e-commerce landscape and retail operations management in Hong Kong," said Audrey Lee, another Full-time MBA student from intake 2019.
