ALUMNI HOMECOMING
What an MBA Homecoming!

Our inaugural MBA Homecoming on 11 November 2018 was a huge success. It was a truly memorable day full of HKUST pride. All branches of our MBA family tree, with more than 700 alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends and families, gathered in one place to celebrate all the things that make HKUST home. Thank you everyone for making our inaugural Homecoming so great.

The Homecoming featured an array of activities for all of the participants to reconnect with old friends, share fond reminiscences and most of all enjoy a great afternoon of learning, networking and fun together on our beautiful campus in Clear Water Bay. The program was designed with the whole family in mind, with a little something for everyone: a reunion lunch, lectures, enrichment talks, networking cocktails, music appreciation, a scavenger hunt, a kids’ play zone and workshops on a wide spectrum of topics ranging from ink art, STEM, chemistry and golf.

The day started off with a full-house welcome luncheon where the latest developments with the School and the MBA program were shared by Prof. Kar Yan Tam, Dean of Business School, and Prof. Tai-Yuan Chen, Associate Dean and MBA Program Director. We had attendees from every single year, going back to the Class of 1995. Some alumni from the Part-time Class of 1998 made use of the luncheon to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their graduation.

Three intellectually stimulating lectures were arranged in the afternoon for the participants to gain insights from the MBA faculty. Prof. Yuk Fai Fong from the Department of Economics spoke about the possible outcomes and impacts of the US-China Trade War; Prof. Derrald Stice from the Department of Accounting explored some of the startling ways numbers impact our world; and Prof. Mitya New from the Department of Management led an inspiring discussion on the future of leadership and organisations in a world of A.I. and big data. This is a hot topic for business professionals and it showcased the revamped MBA curriculum, capturing the latest trends in emerging technology and their integration into the business world.

Many of our exciting activities were made possible by the staunch support of the MBA community. Our heartfelt thanks go to the MBA alumni and student volunteers for their great contributions: to Sean Zhang for delivering a special eSports talk with a live demo; Kit Lam for teaching our younger ones some important business concepts at the Little MBA Workshop, Susanna Ng and Horus Lam for sharing their expertise on the latest trends in home entertainment systems; Harry Sin and Alan Chan for hosting the beginner golf workshops; and 30+ MBA Student Ambassadors who helped with the program and its logistics.

We would also like to thank our valuable corporate partners for all their wonderful support and participation. We thank KEF for bringing us a special hi-fi sonic adventure and music experience; UOB for organising a one of a kind Chinese ink art workshop; and Madhead, Fruitmaster and Petite-Pop for their generous sponsorship of gifts and souvenirs.

We hope all the participants enjoyed the day with their peers and families, and sincerely thank everyone for the great feedback and valuable suggestions. Check out our photo gallery and relive the fun and memories: https://hkustmbahomecoming.weebly.com/.

We know many of our alumni are abroad or were unable to attend some of the lectures on the day. We made a special arrangement and recorded all the talks as continuous learning resources. The video links can be obtained from the photo gallery page.

We are already planning our next Homecoming and look forward to seeing you there!
